- Abstract
- Documents the Uzbekistan National Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale, curated by Space Caviar. The project centers on Muhammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī, a polymath born in Khiva (present-day Uzbekistan) whose 9th-century treatise introduced Hindu-Arabic numerals to Europe — the Latin transliteration of his name gave rise to the modern word 'algorithm.' The exhibition reimagined the Islamic garden tradition as a technologically augmented space of research and experimentation, drawing on the House of Wisdom in Baghdad. Combines essays, artistic contributions, and an extensive public program addressing alternative modernities and the history of technological development.
